How to create a bun that will stay in for an entire performance:
1.Start with wet hair or wet the crown and scalp area of the hair.
2.Squirt a quarter size amount of hair gel into your palm and work this into the hair on the head as well. (It is not necessary to run the gel through the length of the hair.)
3.Brush the hair into a high, slicked-back ponytail. Hairspray any wisps that may not be long enough to catch in the ponytail. Leave bangs or a small portion of the front out.
4.Wrap the ponytail around the elastic to create your bun. Use a hairnet to secure the bun into place by wrapping it around, pulling it tight on one end, twisting it once, then continuing the wrapping and twisting until the entire hairnet has been used.
5. Twist the front piece and poof it at the front of the bun. Secure it with a clip.
6.Secure the hairnet and bun to head with hairpins (not bobby pins) working all around the bun until it does not move. Pins should be about 1/4 to 1/2 inch apart from one another.
7.Hairspray bun and CLIP BACK any strands of hair not slicked to head. No whispies, please.
7.Put hairpieces in hair and fasten with barrettes or bobby pins. This is important. The hairpiece must be fastened.
The above instructions will give you a nice, professional-looking bun and should ensure that hair, scrunchees and hairpieces don't fall out on stage.
