LOCAL BATON TWIRLERS CAPTURE NATIONAL AND REGIONAL TWIRLING TITLES THIS SUMMER Twirl-M’s win National Dance Twirl Championship
WALLED LAKE, MICHIGAN – Members of the Twirl-M’s Baton Group in Walled Lake have been busy this summer practicing and competing in their sport of baton twirling.Their efforts have netted positive results with a national team championship, seven national individual titles, and 12 regional individual championships.
National Results – 26 twirlers bring home a National Championship and moreTwenty-six students in the Twirl-M’s baton twirling group of Walled Lake attended the National Baton Twirling Association annual America’s Youth On Parade baton contest.Held July 17-21 at the University of Notre Dame, the event draws nearly 5,000 twirlers from around the U.S., Canada, Jamaica, and U.S. Virgin Islands.Under the direction of Twirl-M’s Director Rhonda Muscaro, Assistant Directors Rachel Gatny and Holly Minoletti, and Assistant Instructor Dori Ranck, the students earned its first ever National Dance Twirl Championship.Twirl-M’s Team Jazz won the 2007 Beginner Juvenile Large National Dance Twirl Championship.“We are elated and honored to be selected as national champions,” commented Muscaro.“The girls have worked so hard in their training which encompasses classes, camps, clinics, and individual practices for 11 out of 12 months in a year.”
Two students attended the TU International Contest the weekend prior to AYOP.They were Moriah Muscaro, who placed 4th overall in the Junior TU World Majorette Pageant by winning the modeling, 5th in show twirl, and 6th in solo; and Rosie Dodd, who won 1st runner up in the Intermediate Junior Pageant winning 2nd in modeling, 1st in fancy, and 6th in solo.
Muscaro and Dodd then joined their teammates for the week-long AYOP event where the Twirl-M’s netted 52 individual top 10 medals, seven national titles, and two more top ten team awards.

National Winners –Courtney Stachowiak, Intermediate 2-Baton Twirling, age 11; Nicole Dowdell, Intermediate 2-Baton Twirling, age 8 and Intermediate Flag Baton Twirling, age 8; Nicole Harris, Beginner Flag Baton Twirling, age 10, and Beginner Hoop Baton Twirling, age 10; Amy Vailliencourt, Novice Flag Baton Twirling, age 12; Erika Ranck, Novice Fancy Strut, age 7
Pageant Participants - The Twirl-M’s had four students qualify to participate in the Miss Majorette of America Pageant.They were:Nicole Dowdell, 2007 Juvenile Miss Majorette of Michigan.Dowdell represented the state of Michigan in the national pageant and finished 18th overall.Meghan Shaffer qualified for the national intermediate pageant by winning the 2007 Senior Intermediate Michigan Pageant.In her quest to win the national title, Shaffer won 12th in the national fancy strut event.Qualifying for the beginner national pageant was Rosie Dodd, 2007 Junior Beginner Michigan Pageant Winner and Nicole Harris, 2007 Pre-Teen Beginner Michigan Pageant Winner.While both young ladies represented the state well, Harris placed 10th overall winning 6th place in the strut category.

Team September – Finished 12th overall.Despite not placing in the top 10, the group performed admirably for their first time against more than 30 teams.Team Members are:Kelly Burkhard, Madisen Fletcher, Abby Muench, Ellie Perigo, Lauren Robinson, Madison Stachowiak.
Regional Contests in late June netted group 12 regional titles for the Twirl-M’s
The Twirl-M’s is pleased to announce 12 regional champions who were crowned at two regional competitions in late June.
NBTA Regionals were held in Canton, Ohio with Twirl-M’s Sami Hays and Amy Vailliencourt attending.Hays won the Junior Intermediate 2 baton title and both the Intermediate Junior Pageant modeling and fancy strut.Vailliencourt won the Pre-Teen modeling title.
Twirling Unlimited (TU) Regionals was held in Spring Arbor with Twirl-M’s Nicole Dowdell, Casey Dunigan, Nicole Harris, Rosie Dodd, Courtney Stachowiak, Madison Stachowiak, Alice Dodd, and Carolyn Gregory attending.Regional champions are:Dowdell - Regional Fancy, 9-11; Regional Solo Prelims, 9; Regional Solo Championship, 9-11.Harris, Beginner Pageant Winner (1st in modeling, solo, and fancy), 9-11; Regional Modeling, 9-11; Regional 2 baton, 9-11; Regional Solo Prelims, age 10; R. Dodd won the Junior Regional Fancy award; Gregory won the Regional Parade Majorette, 9-11.
The Twirl-M’s is a baton twirling group from Walled Lake.Participants reside in Walled Lake, Commerce Township, Wixom, South Lyon, West Bloomfield, and Rochester.The group features baton twirling instruction for all ages starting from age 2; and at all levels including toddler, new, recreation, competitive, and high school/college majorettes.The group was formed in 1999 and is under the direction of Rhonda Muscaro.

I am pleased to report that the Twirl-M's featured 29 twirlers at this year's 2007 Miss Majorette of Michigan contest. About 1/3 of all twirlers in the contest were members of the Twirl-M's. This was our largest group ever! Great job to the following twirlers who competed:

Miss Rhonda
Congratulations to Nicole Dowdell, the 2007 Juvenile Miss Majorette of Michigan. She won the coveted title by placing 2nd in modeling, 1st in fancy strut, and 1st in solo. As the Juvenile Miss Majorette of Michigan, Nicole will represent Michigan at the AYOP National Contest this July in Notre Dame. Nicole is an advance twirler, which is the highest level of twirling one can become. We are all very proud of Nicole in this accomplishment.

Meghan will represent the state of Michigan in the Intermediate Miss Majorette of America Pageant in Notre Dame this July. Likewise, Rosie and Nicole will represent the state of Michigan in the Beginner Miss Majorette of America Pageant in Notre Dame. The Basic Skills Pageant winners will continue to work toward moving to the next level of twirling.
All seven of our pageant winners are to be commended for their hard work and dedication. Congratulations, ladies.

The Twirl-M's were honored to have a total of 15 students on the podium at the 2007 Miss Majorette of Michigan contest. This is incredible considering the high level of twirling in this state. The entire group thanks ALL of our coaches including Miss Holly, Miss Rachel, Miss Dori, and Moriah's coaches who have also served as special guest coaches for the group - Candy Kimball and AnnNita McDonald.

More than 20 Twirl-M's students attended the 2007 State Championship contest. The group captured 3 state championships, nine state titles, and four qualifiers to the Grand National Solo Championship contest. Congratulations ladies!!
The Twirl-M's are proud to announce that all four of its advance twirlers have qualified for the 2007 NBTA Grand National Solo Championship Contest in Notre Dame. Each qualified by placing in the finals of their respective solo contests at the NBTA State Championship held mid November. They are (L to R): Hailey Henehan, 2nd place in the Pre-Teen Division; Moriah Muscaro, 4th place in the Junior Division; Abby Oates, 8th place in the Junior Division; Nicole Dowdell, Juvenile Solo Champion of MI.
